ANIMAL LICENSES
LICENSE: Every owner of a dog or cat over the age of six (6)
months shall procure a dog or cat license from the City Clerk on
or before the fourteenth day of February of each year. Such
license fee shall be due and payable between January 1 and
February 15 of each year. Licenses become delinquent on February
15 of each year and there shall be a $10.00 penalty assessed for a
delinquent license, except in those cases where, by reason of
residence or age, the dog or cat was not subject to licensing
during the January 1 to February 14 period. The annual license fee
shall be $16.00 for each male or female dog intact; $8.00 for each
male or female dog spayed or neutered; $10.00 for each male or
female cat intact; and $5.00 for each male or female cat spayed or
neutered.
IMMUNIZATION: All dogs or cats six (6) months old or older
shall be vaccinated against rabies. Before issuance of the license
the owner shall furnish a veterinarian’s certificate showing that
the dog or cat for which the license is sought has been
vaccinated, and the vaccination does not expire within six (6)
months from the effective date of the dog or cat license.
NUMBER RESTRICTED: It is unlawful for any person to own, keep,
or harbor at any time more than two (2) animals in any combination
(dogs and/or cats) over the age of six (6) months per residential
or dwelling unit in the City; however, this shall not apply to a
boarding kennel or commercial kennel as defined by Iowa Code 162. |
